As the nights grow longer and the days cooler it's impossible to ignore the fact that Autumn is just around the corner. For my first post I thought I would talk about what fragrances I will be wearing this season and into the Winter months as well. There may also be a quick mention of what to look out for in the coming months.
"Long after one has forgotten what a woman wore, the memory of her perfume lingers." - Christian Dior
Gucci Bloom
Gucci Bloom is the newest fragrance launch from the house of Gucci, it is the first fragrance released by Alessandro Michele, the new creative director at Gucci. Following the trend this year it is a white floral sent with notes of Tuberose, Jasmine Sambac, Orris Root and new kid on the block - Rangoon Creeper. It is a fresh scent that dries down slightly powdery with a moderate projection. It is an eau de parfum and for me it lasts about 4 hours on the skin. While it is a classic floral scent it still manages to smell youthful and fun. It's a really pretty, feminine scent.
The bottle is a beautiful dusty pink colour and is lacquered to look like porcelain - a nod to how perfume used to be stored. The packaging itself is also another stunning aspect of the fragrance, printed in the 'herbarium' design it links in beautifully to the fashion side of the brand - I can't be the only one which wants Gucci to release a wallpaper in this print!!
Marc Jacobs Decadence
When I smell this fragrance all I think of is crisp, Autumn days, wooly scarves and bonfire nights. For me, it is Autumn in a bottle! With notes of plum, Bulgarian rose and amber, it's a tantalizingly warm and rich fragrance which is sure to get you noticed whenever you wear it. While this is definitely a sexy and seductive fragrance which is perfect for date night, I also love to wear this scent in the day. It's a bold fragrance that manages to give you an instant confidence boost. It's an eau de parfum with amazing staying power lasting around 7/8 hours.
I can't write about this fragrance without mentioning the bottle itself. I don't think I've seen a more 'extra' perfume bottle and I'm totally in love with it! The emerald green bag with the snake print lid and tassel is completely over the top and completely suits the name of the fragrance by being decadent. It's something you want to keep out and display, not hide away. You can buy it here in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml
One to look out for: Jimmy Choo Rose Gold
Jimmy Choo launched their first fragrance in 2011 and since then it's fair to say it has gone from strength to strength and has gained a cult following. This Christmas, for a limited time only, get ready to welcome the newest member of the Jimmy Choo family. It's the original fragrance but more. The bottle, while still the same shape based off the Murano chandeliers of Italy is dipped in rose gold. The scent contains all the notes of the original: toffee, pear, mandarin and patchouli, also has the addition of candied orange. I think this is going to a huge fragrance this Christmas and once it's gone, it's gone. Keep your eye out for this one!
Dolce & Gabbana The One
The One is a modern classic that transcends all age groups. My first memory of this scent is going round the my Nana's house. My Nana was a truly classy lady who always seemed to be dressed to the nines and this was the fragrance she used to wear. This oriental fragrance has a sweetness to it which comes from the vanilla used in the scent. It also contains peach, lily-of-the-valley, amber and musk. While the fragrance is predominately musky the fruits help to cut through the scent so it's not overpowering. I would say it is an understated fragrance because while it stays fairly close to the skin, it does last a good 5/6 hours on the skin.
This one is kinda a double whammy because I felt like I needed to mention the newly released eau de toilette. While it's easy to recognise as a D&G fragrance the addition of bergamot blossom and ylang ylang give this scent a more fresher, sparkling dry down. If you love the original but think it's too heavy to wear in the day, or are just starting to venture into the world of oriental fragrances I would highly recommend you try The One eau de toilette. Also lets not forget who has just been named the face of the campaign for The One for men, ladies (or gentlemen) if a fragrance can help you bag the likes of Kit Harrington I think it's something we should all be using!! You can buy the EDP here in 50ml and 75ml You can buy the EDT here in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml
Hugo Boss The Scent
The Scent for her is a stunningly sweet but sexy fragrance. The top notes of honeyed peach and osmanthus make this a really fruity, feminine scent. This is for the girls who love their sweet scents but want something just slightly more grown up. The addition of cacao to the fragrance gives a slightly darker note to the scent which gives it that slight edge that makes it just different enough from all the other sugary sweet scents.
This scent is one of my all time favourites, I reach for it during every season of the year. My only issue is the length it lasts on the skin and this is simply due to the types of ingredients used in this fragrance. However there is now hope!! The eau de parfum intense was launched earlier this year and there is a notable difference in the longevity of the scent. Later on this year Debenhams will also have a 9 month exclusive on the parfum version and I can't wait to try it out.
One to look out for: Tiffany
Tiffany is the place for diamonds and fine jewellery, I'm sure every little girl has dreams of a pastry breakfast outside Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. So yes, Tiffany & Co has been giving us girls our best friends for many years but now they're about to start offering us something new and much more purse friendly. While Tiffany have brought us fragrances in the past, Tiffany by Tiffany & Co is the start of a relaunch with a totally new fragrance. The best way I can describe this fragrance is 'elegant', it is stunning in its simplicity. Having only four notes consisting of mandarin orange, iris, musk and patchouli it gives off a very clean and fresh, yet feminine and sophisticated scent. The look of the bottle is that of a diamond and it comes beautifully packaged in the famous Tiffany blue box. As the holiday season is coming up fast this would make a perfect gist for someone, or even just a little treat for yourself - don't forget to look out for the special edition New York City skyline packaging.
Viktor and Rolf Bonbon
Another Fall favourite. As the name suggests this is another sweet and self-indulgent fragrance that I can't get enough of. The warm amber and sandalwood paired with the rich caramel make this an ideal autumn scent. The scent is almost edible, you can taste the sweetness from the caramel and the citrus from the orange.
We have to quickly talk about the bottle... How cute is it?!? There is a bit of dispute as to whether it's shaped like a bow or a candy wrapper but there's no arguing that you want this on your vanity. The colour of the bottle suits the fragrance perfectly, bold and feminine. Again this may be classed as more of an evening scent but I love to wear it anytime of day. Buy it here in 30ml, 50ml and 90ml
I hope you've enjoyed discovering what fragrances I'll be wearing this Autumn and I hope it's inspired you to go out and try a few for yourself. Let me know down below what your Autumn scents are!
Please remember that this is my personal take on these fragrances and what works for my skin may not necessarily work the same for yours, I always suggest going and trying fragrances on your own skin :)
